Ready for some tips to help you set your social media strategy on fire this year?
2020 was a challenging year for most, from small to large businesses, creators, influencers and everyone in-between. So to help get your head into 2021 and what direction your social media strategy needs to take, I've pulled together some tips to help you focus on some key trends.
Social Media Tip #1 - Video Content is King!
It doesn't matter what platform... you need to be creating video content. Think #InstagramReel, #TikTok and #YouTube to boost your engagement.
Not sure what to create? Think strategically about your audience and what they are interested in, what are you selling them and how you can combine the two in a fun, creative way.
Hot tip: If you haven't checked out Instagram Reel yet, you need to. It's new to Instagram so they get priority and they get pushed out to all users... not just your followers!
You can also utilise the same content across all your social media platforms, so don't feel overwhelmed that you have to create different content for Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn.
Social Media Tip #2 - Brands With Purpose Will Flourish
Brands and businesses with a strong focus on #social, #environmental, and #ethicalresponsibility will go #viral!
Whatever your business model, now’s the time to strategise content around your mission — through your content, let people in and share how you’re making changes.
If you haven’t already, it’s time for you to sit down and identify what your brand or business stands for and what actions you can take throughout the year to better support, and share this journey with your audience.
Social Media Tip #3 - Stories Content on Every Platform
Stories are a perfect example of how social media is changing. Instagram launched #Stories in 2016 with 150 million users. Now there are over 500 million people using Stories every day!
LinkedIn has even added there own version of Stories later last year so they now have a professional twist.
Hot tip: Share a story you've been tagged in, tag someone, add a gif, play around with fonts and colours and use the highlights feature
If you're new to Stories, start with Instagram and go from there. When you're more comfortable with the feature you can branch out on to other platforms and play around with different content.
Social Media Tip #4 - Social Shopping will reign supreme
Consumers are becoming more comfortable shopping direct from social media. Consumers spent 20% more time on social media in 2020 largely as a result of 'stay at home' initiatives laid out in many countries. And with 60% of people saying they discover new products on Instagram why would you not make it easier for them to shop directly?
This is great news for small businesses — your #digital #storefront is another way to secure revenue for your business amid COVID-19. Having #shoppable posts, educational product videos, and a clear brand message on your social profiles all goes towards building loyal customers.
So if you are e-commerce based... now’s the time to get your digital storefront up and running.
Social Media Tip #5 - Go Live or Go Home
2020 was definitely the year for #virtual events with Zoom, IGTV and Instagram Live and this will continue to trend this year. In fact, live content isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, especially with it being the main feature on most social media platforms — LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok alike.
Hot tip: Facebook and Instagram Live are easy to use and a great way to engage your audience. You can also change the audience settings to 'only you' so you can have a few test runs before the world sees it.
But why is live content so popular? Simply put, live content offers a unique way to bring communities together, offering real-time connection and information to those who would not normally have access.
